InterContinental Hotel Phuket Review: Best in Kamala?

Over the many years of reviewing luxury hotels around the world, I have found that the IHG brand offers a consistent high-quality experience no matter which property I’ve visited (with only a few exceptions.) I recently found myself once again exploring areas of Thailand that I hadn’t been before. This time moving down the country from Bangkok by land. After working through Hua Hin, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, and Ranong, I decided to return to my beloved Phuket. The InterContinental Phuket had been on my radar for the last few years and I was excited to finally visit and see how it measured up. Let’s dive in!

Location: A Kamala Beach Hotel

The InterContinental is located along Kamala Beach. This is a more relaxed beach compared to nearby Patong. There are indeed more tranquil beaches than this one, but I do feel that Kamala has a good balance of things to do and places to relax as well.

InterContinental Phuket Overview

The InterContinental Phuket Hotel is a massive resort that spans across road 4030 along Kamala Beach. On one side of the road is the beach along with about 30% of the hotel, and connected by a tunnel are a lot more facilities and accommodations on the other side. The tunnel makes crossing the road very simple and not an obstacle at all. This resort is very well-equipped, including many types of accommodations such as pool villas, standard rooms, club rooms, multiple pools, tennis courts, a fitness center, multiple restaurants, event space, and direct beach access.

Hotel Arrival

The InterContinental hotel staff arranged a very convenient land transfer for my arrival. I was brought directly to the check-in counter at the Club InterContinental where I was checked in and brought to my room very quickly.

Premium Room at InterContinental Phuket

Lucky for me, I secured a premium room on the beach side of the property. From my well-equipped room, I had a beautiful beach and pool view. The premium rooms range in size, and I assumed that mine was about 50 square meters. It included a king-size bed, sofa, lounge chair, coffee and tea facilities, mini-bar items, and a bathtub inside a sizable bathroom that could be closed off with sliding doors. It’s important to note that I had Club InterContinental access, which I will discuss below.

Club InterContinental

Some of my fondest memories of InterContinental hotels are spending time enjoying their club lounges, known as Club Intercontinental. Within Club InterContinental, guests have a few more benefits than standard hotel guests, including an additional club breakfast, daily afternoon tea, and evening cocktails, among some other perks. At the InterContinental Phuket, there is also an additional swimming pool that club guests have access to as well.

I did enjoy the styling of the club lounge as well as its location and enjoyed spending time there. However, I did notice that the offerings were a bit limited compared to other InterContinental Club lounges I have visited over the years. A bit more when it comes to food options during the afternoon tea and evenings would be better.

Food and Beverage in Phuket

InterContinental Phuket boasts several food and beverage outlets throughout its vast property. During my stay, I had a chance to try the Hom Restaurant as well as breakfast in the club lounge and breakfast in the Pinto Restaurant. As you would expect, the breakfast offering in the Pinto Restaurant was a lot more extensive than the club lounge. The quality of the food in general was decent at breakfast, and the service was nice as well. As always, with more options in the hotel’s main breakfast came more people and a louder atmosphere.

Sati Spa in Kamala, Phuket

First of all, the Sati Spa is located under the InterContinental Hotel’s beautiful pagoda. Just as with the exterior of the building, the interior has a gorgeous design that is calming and relaxing. For my visit I went with an hour-long sports massage. My therapist was named Milky and it’s safe to say she truly knew what she was doing. She was not only friendly but able to hit all of the spots that held the most tension. The whole spa experience was seamless and I would love to experience it again.

Thai Luxury Hotel Service

One of the features of InterContinental Hotels that I’m usually a fan of is the service. I can happily report that the service at the InterContinental Phuket was up to standard with other properties I have visited. I felt that the staff were well-trained and proficient at their jobs, which is always a delight. I enjoyed the level of daily cleaning from the maid staff during both morning and evening services.

Conclusion

In conclusion, my experience at the InterContinental Phuket was overall positive and reflective of the high standards I’ve come to expect from the IHG brand. The resort’s location along Kamala Beach offers a relaxed atmosphere with a wide range of amenities and activities to enjoy. The premium room I stayed in was comfortable and enhanced by Club InterContinental benefits.

While the club lounge offerings were slightly limited compared to other InterContinental properties, the food and beverage options across the resort were satisfactory, especially the extensive breakfast at the Pinto Restaurant. Overall, the InterContinental Phuket delivers a luxurious and enjoyable experience for travelers seeking a blend of relaxation, convenience, and hospitality in the beautiful setting of Phuket, Thailand.
